I am a bit confused, is the “we are proud of you” is a recognition for his academic achievements?
If we evaluate his achievements based on development, peace, democracy and human right, I am very sure that you will say “I am ashamed of you”. I can give you 1000 Ethiopians who have amazing academic capabilities. I think Meles is a leader of a big nation what we are looking from him is his leadership abilities. So far we have witnessed that he failed in many aspects regarding leading that country, to be honest. How do we measure Meles’ intelligence? Is it not by the food he puts on the table? To me the Derg adminstered the country better despite its harsh record on human right issues. I don’t blame Derg for that. It was fasion in those days to deny anti-revolution any chance. The problem lies in the theory of marxism-lenninism. Anti revolutionaries are not people according to that theory and hence have to be eliminated. This was accepted by all communists including Derg, EPRP, TPLF the ethiopian students and the like. Blame the studnts who brought that theory and not Derg. Derg was pushed to communism by students and the rest of the society.
But Derg adminstered Ethiopia way better. There was food on the table except draught once in 10 years. Derg could have been shameless and begged to avert that draught. Dergin yilugnta gedelew. Otherwise nothing substantailly bad things or corruption like now under TPLF.

I am so surprised that some ppl are mentioning meles’s educational achievement as a measure of his brilliance . I just want to make some points
1. He did get all his “degrees” in distance education and …he never joined college ..well if you mention that he joined medical faculty, well that was during the hailesilase regime where everyone who went to school is encouraged to be a doctor or engineer and no competition at all. But I am not saying that the students of that generation are not brilliant but just to remind you the intension of the government at that time was to encourage people send their kids to school and if there may be only 100s students who completed high school and most of them will be admitted to medical school
2. for a people like Ethiopia where once brilliance is measured by only the way he talks then there are so many people like meles who can talk to that pedigree but we know how flowed his understanding of democracy and development is. so even in that aspect he sometimes talks trash and does not make him outstanding orator.
3. above all we know who admires meles. Tigrian’s (may not be all of them) , and some short sited people who are attached to the regime through some economic opportunities.

I do not think that since i was a member of TPLF, but it was for the sake of alive .I was tried to seems them,internaly i know my self.so it might be 1% real supporter from hundred person.
