   ነገሬን ለማጠቃለል እንደ ኢሕአዴግ የመሳሰሉ በሕዝብ ውክልና የሌላቸው መንግሥታት ዕድሜ መተንበይ አዳጋች በሆነበት በዚህ ወቅት ለታማኝነት ብዙም ዝና ከሌለው መንግሥት ጋር የገንዘብም ሆነ ሌላ ዋጋ ሊያስከፍል የሚችል ውል መዋዋል የኢኮኖሚ አስተዋይነት (Economically prudent) አድርጌ አልወስደውም::

   The whole explanation of the piece made after you set the above ridiculous conclusion first. You raised an economical related question but you reached at a political decision but despite your deceivingly colored explanation you won’t garb the attention of the majority of Ethiopians but only few of your mind like readers.

   You guys are surely involved in a risky and dreadful political game. It is enough to see the set of serial arguments and the pattern of change in the content of the argument against this Grand renaissance Dam the last few months. Actually these set of arguments were appeared to be for few ones’ frustration, and for the majority ones’s salivation.
   To mention few of these deceivingly set arguments;

   1. I think it was last year few extreme Diaspora politicians protest against the idea of constructing Dam in front of Colombia University in Washington DC.

   ( This was proved to be wrong, that idea was pretty dealt with the government)

   2. Few months ago, you were saying that the government raised this issue because there was a cloud of fear of North Africans style of political uprising

   ( This was again proved to be wrong, Ethiopia is continuing as peaceful and the most stable East African countries)

   3. In the last month, you were saying the government raised this issue because it is only to rub the national feeling of the Ethiopian people and even this renaissance Dam was not there in the five years Growth and transformation plan. you were adamantly saying this is done for political decoration and consumption.

   ( This was again proved to be wrong that even the Egyptian government was much concerned and believed that the Ethiopian government is highly committed to construct this Historical Dam)

   4.In the last few weeks, when the Ethiopian people was involved and committed to be part and parcel of this historical Dam, you were saying the people was pressurized by the government to buy bonds.

   ( Again deadly wrong argument. Let alone bonds, people are donating money for free)

   5. I think you guys are run out of steam for pseudo arguments, today you reappear from the very unusual place to say that the Ethiopian government is not honest enough to pay back the money for the purchased bond.

   I see inconsistency and loose association in the thought flow. When we see those ridiculous and pseudo arguments, is it not right to think the mental health concern of these individuals? What else less than this describe the situation?

   There will not be any Abay Dam, at least in the near future. I think the main objective of the bond is to withdraw money from the market and control the rising inflation. Meles’ government is more worried about the inflation which is skyrocketing at an alarming rate. Government bonds are always advertised on the TV and radio, though they are not attached to any kind of investment. Probably the routine way of bidding government bonds have not been effective. Now the government is trying to force people into buying one. Abay Dam is a good execuse in this respect.

    Insightful article. Considering these bonds as an investment is an utter stupidity and an extraoridinary financial igrorance. From investment point of view they are junk bonds, and rational investors would demand very high level of interest to compensate them for default risk, inflation, illiqyidity, and long maturity periods.
    One striking paradox is: very liquid and short term saving accounts in one of the private banks pay about 5% interest per annum, why would I lock up my money with corrupt government for 5/10 years to get the same interest?

    I think most people wish what you say are correct. It is good to support wholeheartedly but it misses the point. Reading all your five point arguments, I was thinking, hey there are people out there who think that way. Don’t forget, we criticizes and even demonize our government simple because we think we deserve better government. Many people including me think over and over again before we accept any proposal from the government. Do you have to be blind and support everything to survive?

    Really informative article by S. Girma and well explained so that a layman can even understand the idea behind the article. I salute Mr S. I like this one “ቦንድ ማለት በግርድፉ ሲፈታ የ’አለብኝ’ ስምምነት ነው::”

    What I would add to this piece is what makes this bond more successful than previous bonds the government issued and failed like the bond by EPPCO? And I dont know if you can get the necessary information but under what context is the people buying the bond/ Are they really thinking it as an investment or a charity to the project?

    I must say most people dont know it is investment and they consider the contribution done under their name by their offices is similar to the one when there was a border conflict with our neighbor. So the EPRDF’s strategy is as said earlier stealing from the poor under the pretext af a threat from Egypt for the construction of the dam.

    The diaspora community is well informed of the facts their small drama to steal from them failed faster than a lil kid who is tryin to walk for the first time. The buzz in the country due to the dam is because every suck up member at the management position of government offices is tryin to please his boss with contribution and forcing an employee to give away his money..

    If possible will try to write a post abt the dam from an investment point of view? is it a good investment? is the people’s wealth fairly distributed if the project proceeds in this environment?

    Power to the people!!

    Given TPLF’s record of treachery, it won’t be surprising if at some later date they come up with explanation to not pay up when the bond mature. They do not seem to be long term thinkers they just do what gets them out f a bind today. This frenzy of ye enat ager teri was seen during the derg years. About five years ago the dollar was going for about 10 birr today it goes for nearly 20 that is 100% rise. 5% interest rate does not even account for inflation. As they squandered that national sentiment during the Eritrean war 10 years ago, they are reapting that today. When they are done they will have abused every national feeling and nobody will respond to such feelings that stirr national feeling. That in short is the end game of TPLF a sworn enemy of the Ethiopian state

    The European colonialists were constructing bridge and dams in Africa. The Italian constructed the major roads, dams and bridges in Ethiopia. The white racists in South Africa have also done constructed roads, bridges and skyscrapers. But this does not make them good or God. Racists remain racists.     There are no independent judiciary and/or rule of law institution in TPLF Ethiopia,. Everything is the extension of ወያኔ. So, what is the guarantee that these “unelected thieves in power” cannot cheat and run daylight robbery? There is one thing they wanted to communicate to us: At least they intend to stay in power for the next 10 year by any means until they mature their bond.

    First I should appreciate your descent response and your language was pretty well mannered. That was a fascinating stuff and I liked it man.

    But Your arguments were extraneous in all parameters and it appeared as if we were talking two different Ethiopia. It tells me what platform you and your like minds stand on.
    However such an axis of evil thinking takes you no where but the very good thing is we, Ethiopians are extremely cautions of such people motives.

    You can hate the government (ወያኔ as you wished to call it) for millions of reasons but I couldn’t understand at any instance why you people are flooding with eyes of the construction of this Grand renaissance Dam.

    You know what I hate your two previous brutal government, Hailesselasie and Mengistu regimes but if they were the ones who initiated this noble idea, I wouldn’t for a second oppose this good thing – mind you keeping the political difference I had.

    But the scenario you had is absolutely different and even I can assume you can go a great length to use every ammunition and Arsenals to explode the Dams constructed by ወያኔ ( like Tekeze, Gibe, Belese and now the planned Abbay).

    This is the point why I raise the mental health concern of these people. You guys need a professional help. That is absolutely disheartening

    Your futile attempt to misrepresent the opposition’s position on the issue does not work here. No Ethiopian would object to Ethiopia’s aspiration for equitable use of the Nile water. This is true for individuals as well as groups whether they are inside or outside the country. Ethiopia’s attempt to redress the colonial time arrangement that gave disproportional power to Egypt & Sudan is not new. Actually that issue alongside the Assab issue was the battle cry of Ethiopian nationalists in the opposition arguing that International law supports Ethiopia’s position. When Ethiopian nationalists took such position, what did your beloved tyrant Legesse Zenawi do? -Sign MOUs with Egypt affirming Egypt’s and Sudan’s position
    -Take every opportunity defending EPLF’s claim on Assab
    etc..
    This smart-aleck guy now steals our voice and claim to want construction of dam on Abay. By now it has come clear that Legesse Wedi-Banda Zenawi latest unveiled plan was not meant for real construction of the dam but was rather a self-aggrandizing political or diplomatic ploy and money making scheme for cash starved TPLF conglomerates. He knows if the dam will be built, it will only be built with World Bank money after Egypt and Sudan agree to renegotiate for a new treaty and perhaps on tributaries rather than on Abbay itself. Shame on those who take hard earned money from Ethiopian families under the guise of patriotic duty. After reading this article, those who are buying bonds willingly are going to have rude awakening as those Eritreans who trusted EPLF and bought its bond.

    The article is informative, at least for a person whose primary target is getting return for his/her investment. My heart tells me that this project will not be completed on time; there will be cost overrun; there will be other million problems including chnage of Government. But that will not prevent me from sacrifying 500 US dollars for my country. I do not expect to get any return for my money. If I get, GREAT. If not, this will be one sacrifice for a good cause. 500 US dollars will never make me rich. But if there are many other fellow with good heart, we may be able to make this dam possible! If the DEVIL builds the dam, that does not make it righteous. The DEVIl is still a DEVIL. But we will have our dam. You may say, what if they take the money? That is the RISK I will take to see my country take a step out of poverty!

    First, I do not understand why you want to call all people who oppose ወያኔ tribal and Lootocratic rule as “Axis of evil?” Rather they are “Axis of Resistance.”

    Second, these days you repeatedly say those who oppose ወያኔ tribal and Lootocratic rule has “mental health” problem and I think you deserve a reply for this too to show you who really is suffering from a “mental health” problem.

    I understand that your mental health patients are the people in the Diaspora and the home opposition. To characterize the Diaspora and home opposition is like “የምን አይነ ደረቅ መለሶ ልብ… እንደሚባለው ነው፡፡ ወይም ሌባው በገባያ ማሃል ሌባ ሌባ እያል እሮጠ እንደሚባለው ነው፡፡” There is no entity in Ethiopia that suffers all forms of mental health problem than ወያኔ and its associates.

    It is rather Zenawi and his thugs that are suffering from what James Zumwalt appropriately called “Detached-Reality Syndrome (DRS)”. DRS is not a genetic disorder and is not found in the medical dictionary. But it is a disorder that seems to afflict dictators lake Mugabe, Mubarak, Zenawi, Ben Ali, etc. It is a product of the environment that is self-inflicted. It occurs when a brutal dictator purges his leadership circles of independent thinkers. James Zumwalt gives as an example from Saddam Hussein’s brutal rule:

    “During Saddam’s reign of terror, he surrounds himself with “yes” men – people who told him only what he wanted to hear but never what he needed to hear to make an informed and rational decision.     Suffering from this Saddam Hussein malady in Ethiopia is the ወያኔ leadership. Ethiopians for the past 20 years of ወያኔ rule have served TPLF leadership as a laboratory experiment in mind control forcing them to believe life during ወያኔ is utopia. Years of poverty, miss-rule, tribal favoritism, nepotism, looting, and የኑሮ ውድነት, etc have provided the Ethiopian people with a bitter dose of reality,. But the ወያኔ leadership and its ዘረኛ: ምርኮኛ እና ጥቅምኛ members remain detached from this reality. . DRS is not a genetic disorder and is not found in the medical dictionary.     In Ethiopia most security and financial institutions are occupied by members of one tribe(note that am not referring to the whole tribe like what u would like me to do so. only few members like it was during the last Ethiopian rulers). What is your idea?

    Do u think institutions like election board, police and military are neutral in Ethiopia?

    What is your idea about the corruption going on in Ethiopia?

    Do u think it is best for ethiopia to have ethenic federalism system?

    Meles promised that we will eat three times before 20 years. still ppl are starving. Dont u think there is some problem? Do u think it is healthy to for one person to rule us for 20 years?     This guy called ‘Teshome’ is doing his job successfuly. These Woyane cadres are trained to act as ‘anchorman’ in pro-democracy blogs. Their main task is targeting good articles posted on the blogs and diverting the partcipants from the essence of the matter. Currently, the woyanes are trying to keep people focused on Abay Dam issue. In the middle of the argument they bring divisive topics such as ‘Derg’, ‘Nefitegna’, ‘nationalities’,'Diaspora’ etc. The main objective is to stifle questions of demoracy, rights, and freedom from being openly discussed among Ethiopians. I am not surprised most of the heated debate is still on the untimely topic of Abay Dam.

Our problem is that we moved from Mengistu’s Dergue-I to Meles’s Dergue-II which is more primordial, primitive and backward in its content. I believe the writer explained what bond is, and how it is implmeneted, and judged from political facts that is is not a risk worth taking with the current government… Where do u see the fault?     This is one article that needs to get into the hands of every Ethiopian. I hope you understand the urgency of the matter to make this possible. Ultimately, the question is this: Is the current government putting pressure on citizens to a point where saying NO to buying bonds results in punitive measures of one type or another? Similar to joining the ruling party resulted in employment!?
