ማተሚያ ቤት ስናፈላልግ፣ የግል የመንግሥት አላልንም፡፡ እስከ ነሐሴ መጨረሻ የሚያደርሱልንን ብቻ ለመለየት ሞከርን፡፡ የመንግሥቶቹ በሙሉ ከአዲስ ዓመት በኋላ ቀጠሩን፡፡ የትምህርት መፃሕፍት በማተም ተወጥረዋል፡፡ ከግሎቹ ውስጥ አማራጮች ነበሩ፡፡ አዲስ ማሽን ያስገባውን መርጠን፣ 6ዐ ሺ ብር ቀብድ ተከፍሎ ስራው ተጀመረ፡፡ ቀሪው 6ዐ ሺ ብር ስራው ሲያልቅ እንዲከፈል ተስማማን፡፡
ማተሚያ ቤቱ ለሥራው ትልቅ ቦታ ሰጠው፡፡ ያኔ 12ዐ ሺ ብር ትልቅ ገንዘብ ነበር፡፡ ቴክስቶቹ ፊልም ተነሱ፤ ተሰባጥረው ተቀመጡ፡፡ ከ6ዐዐ ገጾች በላይ ያለው መፅሐፍ በመሆኑ፣ ይህ ስራ 15 ቀናት ፈጀ፡፡ ተደከመበት፡፡ የመፅሐፉ ሽፋን በጎን እየተጣደፈ ነው፡፡ ባለ 4 ቀለም ስለሆነ፣ ከፊል ስራው ወደ ሌላ ማተሚያ ቤት ተልኳል፡፡ ከ1ዐ ቀናት በኋላ ተጠናቆ ሕትመት ተጀመረ፡፡ በመካከሉ ግን፣ ያልተጠበቀ የስልክ ጥሪ አቃጨለ፡፡
«አቤት!» አልኹኝ፤ በእጄ ላይ የያዝኹትን ሻይ ቁጭ አድርጌ፡፡
«እስክንድር፣ እፈልግሀለኹ» አለኝ የማተሚያ ቤቱ ባለቤት፡፡
«ሕትመት እንድናቋርጥ ታዘናል፣» አለ ባለቤቱ፤ አንገቱን ደፋ አድርጎ፡፡
«በማን?» ብላ ጠየቀችው፡፡ ከ1983 በኋላ፣ መፅሐፍ እንዳይታተም ስንሰማ ይሄ የመጀመሪያ መሆኑ ነው፡፡ ተገረምን!

Ron Singer engages with dissident Ethiopian journalist Eskinder Nega about the EPRDF (Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front) and how his wife was forced to give birth while in prison.

“I think there’s a consensus for democracy, even among farmers. People deep in the countryside, people who are not literate, even, are now conscious that the government needs their votes to be legitimate. This is a revolution in thought.”

Officials in Ethiopia hijacked a local UNESCO-sponsored World Press Freedom Day event, installing government-backed journalists as speakers and nixing independent journalists slated to speak. There was no discussion, as originally planned, of this year’s global theme on new media and the Internet at the Tuesday forum, according to local sources and news reports.

Before the creation of the UDJ, she spent most of her time and energy trying to negotiate all the CUD factions, rather than creating a new party. But both camps have now become so rigid that neither appears willing to accept any compromise that would create a sound unity. The other choice she has, is to create a new path for her future engagement. This path does not necessarily have to have a political party in it. If Birtukan spends enough time to take care of herself and think thoroughly, there are multiple options that are fit for her profile and taste. So far, her silence and solitude shows that she is on the right track to crafting her own way.
